Fire rips through part-built terraced homes

Two part-built terraced homes have been destroyed by a blaze, firefighters have said.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service said it received multiple calls at about 18:30 BST on Sunday to reports of buildings on fire at a housing development in Prince Maurice Road, Plymouth.

Crews said the houses were "well alight with flames issuing from the roof and windows" when they arrived.

A fire service spokesperson said two terraced houses in of a row of eight had been destroyed and crews were attempting to extinguish flames at a third property.

Crews from seven stations including two from Cornwall Fire Service were dispatched.

Road closures were set up at the scene while firefighters battled the flames

Road closures were put in place on Coleridge Road and Prince Maurice Road while crews dealt with the incident, the fire service spokesperson added.

"Local residents are advised to stay away from the area and to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke while the incident is ongoing," the spokesperson said.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police also attended.
